Medical Pearls from the Internet Medical Association

Obtaining cooking information from television shows and social media was found to be associated with increased body weight. Cooking from scratch was also associated with increased weight. Obtaining cooking information from other print, online, or in-person sources was not significantly associated with body weight.

Comment: This study found unusual relationships that do not make a lot of sense. Perhaps television, social media, and cooking from scratch indicate greater food orientation which results in increased weight. This is very much just a hypothesis, but it raises several questions... would the same hold true for exercise? Would obtaining exercise information from television and social media result in more exercising than obtaining that same information from print or from a trainer?
