Non-pharmacological therapies, including music therapy, are effective at helping reduce agitation in care-home dementia residents. Therapies that appear to be helpful include patient-centered care, dementia care mapping, sensory therapy activities, and structured music therapies.

Comment: Both art therapy in which patients touch art objects and discuss the art with the therapist, and music therapy in which patients interact with music with the help of a music therapist, both appear to be beneficial non-pharmacological therapies to help treat agitation in dementia.
