This study found that the provision of free, long-acting contraception to teenagers reduced the abortion rate by 75%.

Comment: The primary long-acting contraceptive used was the IUD. Note, this sample was compared to all teens in the U.S. This is not a good comparison, because the sample in this study was young teens, many of which had already experienced pregnancy and 18% of which already had an abortion. In the population studied, however, this research suggests (but does not confirm) that the provision of free, long-acting contraception is likely to reduce abortion rates.
